How Can It Be?

People sometimes ask me, almost suspiciously, "How can a company stay in the game if they consistently sell new hot tubs for less than everybody else?"

Most people find it reassuring that we're registered with the government, we have a GST and PST number, we have a proper business license, we charge and pay taxes, and we pay a professional accountant to do all the bookkeeping.  So it's all legitimate.

But for those who are curious about how we can get away with selling new spas for less than others do, these points might help you understand how and why we do it: 

1.  We don't need to sell new spas in order to stay in business.  Used hot tub sales and service are our “bread & butter”, while new hot tubs are just “icing on the cake”.  So we can afford to sell them for less than places that rely solely on new hot tub sales to survive. 

 

2.  We offer very low prices on our new spas to take the pressure off our used hot tub inventory.  We can only come up with so many used hot tubs in any given month, and sometimes we have a hard time keeping up with the demand.  But since the factories we work with can produce an almost unlimited supply of spas, we can easily meet the demand for new tubs.  Often people come to us looking for a used spa but when they find out they can get a new one for so little, they decide to go that route instead. That allows us to keep a better inventory of used spas for those who are on an extremely limited budget.

 

3.  Used hot tubs are labour intensive and time consuming while faxing an order to the factory for a new tub is quick and super easy, so our prices reflect that fact. 

 

4.  Although we don’t make very much money on new hot tub sales, we are now selling so many every month that it really adds up!  Although we still specialize in used hot tubs, we now sell more new hot tubs than we do used ones.  

 

5.  We have very low overhead costs, so we don’t need a ton of money each month to pay the bills.  A friend of mine stated that our storefront was likely the ugliest one in Langley - I laughed and agreed it might be true, but we probably pay less per month on our lease than anyone else!  Our showroom is more functional than it is awe-inspiring.  We don’t spend very much on advertising, we don’t have commission sales staff and and we keep things relatively simple and modest to keep the costs down.

 

6.  We’re not greedy or desperate.  Since we don't make a huge profit on our new hot tub sales, we don't drool at the prospect of "closing the deal" - one sale lost or gained is not going to make or break us, so we're pretty laid back in our approach to sales.  And since we aren’t under any pressure to sell a certain amount of new hot tubs each month to stay in business, we're not obsessed with "making the quota" - there's no slick sales pitch and no pressure to buy anything from us.  We just explain your options and allow you to decide how you'd like to proceed.


So you can see that when it comes to our low prices on new spas, everybody wins.

But even if our prices were as high as regular spa stores, many people would still prefer buying from us.  People frequently tell us that our "holistic" approach (new & used sales, parts, service, repairs, moving, recycling & salvaging) makes us more informed and gives us more credibility than in stores that only deal with new hot tubs and only represent one brand name.  

Besides, many people prefer to do business with a small family run company than a big franchise store.
