Why Are Good Used Hot Tubs so Hard to Find?

Hot tubs can easily last over 20 years, and there are tens of thousands of home spas in BC.  Yet it seems like there are only a handful of used hot tubs for sale at any given moment.  How can this be?  

It mostly has to do with the permanent nature of a hot tub.  Since a spa is both functional and decorative, the original buyer makes it an important part of the yard's layout and design.  And since it is large and heavy, it is pretty much there to stay unless there is a compelling reason to remove it.   

It usually doesn’t occur to the owner to get rid of it until it has fallen out of use and into disrepair.  By then it’s usually ready for the landfill.  A few might try to sell their neglected spa in the classifieds, but most of them end up calling an established business like Hot Tubs Galore to have it hauled to the dump.

But what happens to unwanted hot tubs in excellent condition?  The truth is that most of the good used hot tubs end up changing hands without ever being listed in the classified ads.  

One reason for this is that the best home spas are usually found in nice neighborhoods.  People in good homes tend to buy good products and take good care of their things but when they no longer want something, they couldn’t be bothered placing ads, fielding calls, then meeting and haggling with the general public.  Some are also concerned about liability.  So they contact an established business like Hot Tubs Galore to arrange for a quick easy sale and a professional removal.

Another reason is that hot tubs are often very difficult to remove.  Sometimes the deck and fence have to be disassembled.  Other times special equipment and special technique is needed due to restrictive access.  Most shoppers are not interested in acquiring a hot tub that requires a complicated, strenuous and possibly expensive move.  Plus people can get hurt and property can be damaged in the process. So rather than selling to the general public, the owners get an established business like Hot Tubs Galore to remove it safely and efficiently. 

Of course good used hot tubs can occasionally be found in the classifieds, but the best deals are often immediately snatched up by hot tub savvy opportunists who buy them with intent to resell (many of the classified ads posing as private sales are actually posted by people who regularly "flip" hot tubs for profit).

All of the above reasons make it difficult for the general public to find a good used spa at a bargain price.  Based on our experience, we believe that the classifieds are about the worst place to find a good trouble-free home spa.  That's why so many people are delighted and relieved to discover the security, convenience and selection offered by Hot Tubs Galore!
